Collateral
Damage Tour - Ireland, May 2003 Jim Page is about to kick
off a tour of Ireland on May 6th. Although a Yank himself, Jim has Irish connections
going back to the Ballisodare Festival and Carnsore Point in 1979. Irish audiences
really got to soak up the wonders of this true original in 79
when Jim opened for Planxty on a national tour and the Hot
Press warned Irish fans to ignore him at your peril! This
is when Jim established friendships and musical alliances that are still strong
today. Christy Moore picked
up Jim's anti-nuclear anthem "Hiroshima-Nagasaki Russian Roulette"
and made it a part of his repertoire. The Moving Hearts really blew the
ceiling off the song and its now a part of the national culture, known by
old and young alike. Today Hiroshima appears as the first song on Tom Dunnes
30 Best Irish Hits. Jim lived in Dublin for three years in the early '80s
and played regularly at the legendary Meetin' Place, inbetween touring,
writing and recording. Through the years and in the course of his travels Jim
has shared the stage with many noted Irish performers including Christy Moore,
Donal Lunny, Jimmy Faulkner, Declan Sinot, Paddy
Keenan, Micheal O Domhnaill, Karan Casey and many others. In 1995
Jim toured Ireland for probably the 20th time and ran across a tiny article, in
a tiny rural paper which became the inspiration for the song "Heroes and
Survivors." The ballad tells the story of how the Choctaw Indian people
in America, after surviving their Trail Of Tears, took up a collection among themselves
and sent $710 to the Irish people for famine relief. Jim has 17 full-length
albums to his credit with his more recent catalogue available on CD. "Human
Interesting" is a retrospective of 30 years of work, including many
pieces from old vinyl recordings that have long been unavailable. His most recent
CD "Collateral Damage" is a "not-for-the-faint-of-heart"
collection of post-911 songs. Jim lives in Seattle, Washington and continues
to write, record and tour regularly. For more information on Jim, stories and
CDs, visit his web site at www.jimpage.net "Every
now and again I encounter a singer who gives me a glimmer of hope. Jim Page carries
the light." Christy Moore "Jim's
been writing great topical songs for as long as I can remember, bringing his acute
wit and wry humor to a host of subjects that can really use both. In the tradition
of Woody and Dylan, he cuts right to the heart with music you actually enjoy listening
to. I'm a longtime admirer." Bonnie Raitt
