BURG SATZVEY

The castle was mentioned in official documents the first time in 1396.

Burg Satzvey was bild by knight Otto Van Wey. It was first used by a religous group of women and later on by the Archbishop of Cologne.

The Gymnich family inherited the castle about 300 years ago. It was one out of 14 castle owned by the Gymnich family in this region and was also used as a guesthouse by the government.

The old Dynasty of the Count of Gymnich has its origins in the 9th century. (Carolingian Dynasty of Charlemagne.)

International knight festivals of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance take place every year with knights from all over Europe, including tournaments that include different Middle Age disciplines.

Regarding the strict rules of chivalry the winning knights receive the Imperial gold coin purse of Burg Satzvey as reward.
