The Latest News On The Young Dubs!

The Young Dubs are soon to be touring Europe! Check your local music listings and check on the Celtic Cafe for more updates and schedules!

To fully appreciate the rolicking music of the Young Dubliners or Young Dubs, as their fans affectionately call them, you've got to check all your inhibitions at the door. Their music is simply fun, high-spirited rock and roll with a Celtic soul.

You might even find yourself in the trademark "jig pit", a derivation of the mosh pit, jumping up and down to their upbeat music.

I first heard of the "Young Dubliners" last year when my friends saw them at one of the clubs around the South Bay. In December, they dragged me to the House of Blues, insisting that I definitely had to hear this unique blend of Irish rock music.

And Irish music with a rock twist it is. The Young Dubliners are simply a vibrant, lively band whose main power has always been their live music and captivating blend of Irish traditional instruments like the tin whistle, violin and harp with the strains of rock 'n roll. Their latest album, "Red" captures what has made The Young Dubliners one of the most fun bands to watch this year and they're only going to get better!

Keith robertsLed by Keith Roberts on vocals and guitar, this group is composed of six young men who play "rock with a Celtic edge." My friends said that their music reminded them of fun times they had at the pubs they had gone to when they visited Dublin last year and listening to this band, I would not doubt them one bit. The music of the "Young Dubliners" has been known to bring about rowdy dancing and who's to blame them? With the band's great onstage and offtage camaraderie, this band simply attracts sell out crowds each time they perform. In Los Angeles alone, they've sold out more than 30 consecutive shows at the House of Blues!

Having begun as a duo performing Irish music in 1988, they began adding "Americans to the mix", and the "Young Dubliners" was born. They have produced three albums to date: "Rocky Road", "Breathe", and "Alive Alive O".

Aside from Keith Roberts, the "Young Dubliners" is composed of Jeff Delisanti on flute, tinwhistle, saxophones and organ; Bob Boulding on electric guitar; Bren Holmes on bass; Mark Eptig on violin, mandolin and harp; and David Ingraham on drums and the bodhran. Their music, with its injection of traditional Celtic instruments like the bohdran and the tinwhistle, among others, gives "The Young Dubliners"' music that Celtic feel that simply cannot be found in any other group out there.

Lead singer Keith Roberts cracks his usual jokes and drinks his shot of Murphy's whiskey between songs, evoking the atmosphere of the small neighborhood pub where one goes to shoot the breeze and listen to some good ol' Irish music. In this case, just add a dollop of rock and you've got a mix that just can't be beat.

Click here to order Red, the latest CD by the Young DublinersThey have released two CD's, Breathe and The Young Dubliners. Both CD's have received acclaim and have established the "Young Dubliners" among the best rock bands in Southern California, touring all over the country. You can learn more about the band and the individual band members, their current tours (What city are we in?) and more by visiting their official website, The Young Dubliners.

So make sure to celebrate and party with the "Young Dubs" in your home town, or if you're in Los Angeles, check them out at the House of Blues on June 30th, when they'll be holding their album party. So check your inhibitions at the door and get your fill of the fabulous "Young Dubliners"!
