Tønder Festival 2011

It’s the time of year when thoughts turn to the Tønder Festival in Denmark. This year’s festival runs from August 25 to 28 and has one of the most exciting lineups in recent years with acts ranging from The Dubliners to Salsa Celtica. Celtic Cafe correspondent Michael G. Rose previews the legendary Irish acts and innovative new Scottish bands that will be appearing, and he also gives a review of last year’s delightful weekend.

Ireland - The Show

Premiering at the Granada Theater in Santa Barbara, California on July 17, Ireland - The Show features a cast of All-Ireland and World Champion dancers and musicians. Earle Hitchner

In a career spanning 50 years, "Bard of Armagh" Tommy Makem's name was synonymous with the very best in Irish music. Makem passed away on August 1, 2007, at the age of 74: Ireland has lost a sweet singer indeed, and not an angry one.

Earle Hitchner of the Irish Echo salutes and remembers the "Godfather of Irish music" whose "dedication to preserving and promoting Ireland's rich musical heritage never wavered."

Celtic Woman On Tour

The awe-inspiring vocalists Lisa, Chloe and Lynn, along with the mesmerizing Celtic violinist Mairead, continue to capture the hearts of fans while touring across North America. Their critically acclaimed new television special, Celtic Woman -- Songs from the Heart is a blockbuster on PBS.

Celtic Woman performs with their 6-piece band and the Aontas Choir, performing unique renditions of Irish standards, Classical favorities and Contemporary hits.
