The Rising Step

The Rising Step is a show of traditional Irish dance, music and song that will run at An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny, Ireland, from Aug. 13-30.

Created, choreographed and produced by Carol Leavy Joyce and Michael Patrick Gallagher, The Rising Step will bring you on a journey through the story of Irish dance from the time when the dance master visited homes to teach the steps, to the joyous dancing at the crossroads and right up to the present day.

Celtic Folk Soul

Jen Delyth creates gorgeous, intricate Celtic art that is a feast not just for the eyes, but the soul. The Celtic belief about the interconnectness of all things is expressed beautifully by her latest work, Celtic Folk Soul.

Earle Hitchner

In a career spanning 50 years, "Bard of Armagh" Tommy Makem's name was synonymous with the very best in Irish music. Makem passed away on August 1, 2007, at the age of 74: Ireland has lost a sweet singer indeed, and not an angry one.

Earle Hitchner of the Irish Echo salutes and remembers the "Godfather of Irish music" whose "dedication to preserving and promoting Ireland's rich musical heritage never wavered."

An Dahmsa

An Damhsa comes to Portland, Oregon on Sept. 6, featuring Sean-nós, Irish, Cape Breton, American Clogging, Tap and Modern dance. The story will take the audience on a beautifully narrated Journey from Ireland to America and back again.

Maldon Meehan will be joined by Kieran Jordan, Shannon Dunne and Alicia Guinn, with none other than the Johnny Connolly Band providing traditional music.

Tønder Festival 2008

The world of Celtic music moves to the Tonder Festival in picturesque  Denmark for the weekend of August 28 - 31. This year's artists include  Altan, Gráda, Mary Black, Ashley MacIsaac, Seth Lakeman and many more  top musicians from Scotland, Ireland and North America.

Celtic Cafe's Tonder correspondent, Michael G. Rose offers a tempting  preview of this year's festival and shares highlights  and pictures  from the 2007 festival.
