AUDITIONS

Something I thought a lot of our readers-cum-budding stars would want to know, is exactly what Marie looks for when auditioning for LOTD. This was her answer - TAKE NOTE!

Well, first and foremost, you never leaves the basic. No matter what. You still always look for the deportment, the carriage, the foot placement. I've always been a terror on that, when I was teaching, judging or what, on placement of fee. So, the basics really, have to be there first of all. Outside of competition, you also have to be pleasant. Be entertaining, as I say to the dancers in the show. The audience come out for enjoyment, and they've chosen you for their night's entertainment and you can't go out there with a woeful face on you, you've got to entertain them and it doesn't matter how bad you feel inside, you must entertain those people. And my philosophy is (and I tell them this)

"One smile is worth a thousand steps".

Going back to your question though, to look good on stage is important. So you have to look after yourself. Obviously a good standard of dancing is required, but more important is your personality because that's what will always come across on stage.
