Michael
Flatley honored by ICCUSA The Lord of the Dance has been
honored yet again this year, this time by the Ireland Chamber of Commerce in
the U.S.A. (ICCUSA), for his outstanding contribution to Arts and Entertainment.
ICCUSA serves over 8,000 members from both large and small companies in the American
and Irish business communities involved in the pursuit of international trade.
The event took place at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on Wednesday,
October 8th, at the annual Celtic Ball. The Guests of Honor besides Michael
Flatley were Dermot F. Desmond, Chairman of IIU (International
Investment & Underwriters) Ltd., (Dublin, Ireland); Patrick J. Moore,
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation;
and Michael D. O'Halleran, President and Chief Executive Officer of the
Aon Corporation. The Keynote Speaker was The Honorable Mary Harney,
the Deputy Prime Minister (Tanaiste) and Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Employment
(Ireland). Ms. Harney, as Minister, is responsible for the presence of about 600
U.S. companies, with investments in Ireland of forty billion euros. Guests
included Senator Charles Schumer
(NY); Diarmuid M. Hogan, President of Global Excess Partners; Denis
O'Brien, Chairman, Gigicel; Marin J. Sullivan, COO, Vice Chairman
of American International Group; Patrick J. McDonough, Managing
Partner of Morgan Stanley; Bill Fugazy, NECO; Representatives
of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce
and Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. Performers: Gregory
Harrington, violinist and Maire O'Brien, soprano Proceeds of
a silent auction will be donated to the Boys
Hope Girls Hope, an organization that provides long-term solutions to
the critical needs of today's promising youth at risk in intolerable family or
community settings. Recent events in the life of Michael Flatley include
his appearance with the fabulous Lord of the Dance troupe at the Red
Cross Gala in Monaco last August. Click
